Our Future-Focused Planning Opens Doors.

Although the personal circumstances our Students experience can impact their future choices differently, we know how important it is to provide them with helpful resources no matter how they decide to move forward upon completing their High School education. For High School Students, knowing how to manage the next phase of life after earning a diploma is critical, and thoughtful planning is essential. At Iowa Choice Charter School, we partner with High Schoolers to create future-focused plans centered around their individual goals and aspirations! Our structure ensures that each Student has the tools necessary for success throughout their time with us and beyond.

As part of our future-focused planning process, we explore four distinct pathways (Apprenticeship, College or University, Entering the Workforce, and Military Career) with each Student to help them make informed decisions as they navigate the next phase of life. Through this Blog Post, we take a deeper dive into each of these pathways to highlight how any of them may be a good fit for our High Schoolers once they graduate!

Pathway 1 | Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is an invaluable pathway for Students who prefer hands-on learning and direct entry into the workforce. Whether in fields like construction, healthcare, or information technology, apprenticeships provide practical experience and classroom instruction.

Future-focused planning for an apprenticeship involves identifying industries of interest, researching apprenticeship programs, and understanding the skills required. Additionally, connecting with local trade unions, vocational schools, or industry associations can provide insights into available opportunities. Apprenticeships typically offer a direct route to a career and the chance to earn while learning!

Pathway 2 | College or University

For many Students, pursuing higher education at a college or university holds high importance. This pathway exposes Students to many academic disciplines, from arts and sciences to business and technology. Choosing to attend a college or university is not just about academics; it is also an opportunity for personal development and exploration. Students can engage in extracurricular activities, internships, and networking opportunities to enhance their overall life experience.

Future-focused planning for college or university involves researching potential institutions, understanding admission requirements, and exploring financial aid options. In addition to adequate planning, selecting a major aligned with a Student’s interests and career goals will most definitely set the foundation for their successful future.

Pathway 3 | Entering the Workforce

Some Students may choose to enter the workforce directly after High School. These Students should focus on building a resume, attending job fairs, and networking with professionals in their desired industry as they work to meet the educational requirements set related to their High School education.

Future-focused planning for entering the workforce includes a clear understanding of personal skills, interests, and career goals. Students need to align their job search with their long-term goals and be open to opportunities for growth and advancement, such as certification or short-term training programs that can enhance employability.

Pathway 4 | Military Career

The military may be a good fit for Students with a sense of duty and a desire for structured discipline. From specialized training to leadership experiences, a military career can set the stage for all future endeavors.

Future-focused planning for a military career involves researching different branches, understanding enlistment standards, and considering potential roles within the armed forces. Additionally, Students considering this pathway should explore the various branches and speak with military recruiters to gather comprehensive information.

Iowa Choice Charter School is passionate about positively impacting the educational landscape and seeing Students succeed. We believe in the power of choice and want our High Schoolers to embrace the journey ahead! Whether embarking on an apprenticeship, pursuing higher education, diving into the workforce, or entering the military, each pathway offers unique opportunities for Students to grow personally and professionally. By collaborating with our Students and recognizing their interests, strengths, and goals, we open doors to knowledge that can assist them in planning for their brighter future!
