Helping Students Transition into Life after High School

At Iowa Choice Charter School, we recognize that earning a High School Diploma is a wonderful accomplishment. And, we recognize that while navigating life after graduation can be a time filled with excitement and anticipation, it can also bring about anxiety and confusion for Students.

High Schools play an important role in preparing Students for the transition into life after graduation. While academics are central to each Student as they earn their High School Diploma, once this milestone has been reached, they should be able to continue with the skills, values and confidence they need to embark on their unique journeys after graduation!

The way we operate allows us to provide individual guidance to each one of our Students and work alongside them to create a future-focused plan that meets their specific needs. Our Educational Pathways help Students get ready for life after High School in addition to guiding them towards earning their Diploma. These Pathways prepare Students for life after graduation and doing this is a priority for us here at Iowa Choice Charter School. And, they cover a wide range of topics which are listed and expanded upon below:

Career Exploration | We offer career exploration opportunities to help Students discover their interests and strengths. These opportunities include apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing and more! When Students explore a variety of careers, they can get real-world insight into potential workforce paths which creates a foundation for them to make informed decisions in the future.

Social and Emotional Development | On a social level, our Students interact with diverse peers and navigate various collaborative situations which fosters the development of interpersonal skills and empathy. Additionally, the activities we offer to Students outside of our Curriculum allows them to explore their passions, collaborate, and develop leadership abilities. Social and emotional development is crucial to the overall High School experience that every Learner has.

Critical Thinking and Life Skills | We emphasize critical thinking by encouraging students to analyze complex issues. Beyond the classroom, we also emphasize practical life skills at Iowa Choice Charter School. Practical skills such as budgeting, time management, home economics, financial literacy and workshops on personal development equip graduates with the tools to handle challenges in adulthood.

College or University Guidance | For Students interested in pursuing higher education, we assist in the review of college applications, standardized tests, and scholarships alongside them. We also offer advice on selecting the right College or University, writing compelling essays, and preparing for admissions interviews.

Technology Proficiency | As a free public school that provides education on a virtual learning platform, we want Students to feel comfortable and supported at all times. On a daily basis, we integrate technology into our Accredited Curriculum and technology literacy is vital for most modern careers and jobs. Learning to use digital tools effectively prepares graduates for the demands of the digital workforce.

Problem Solving | We work alongside Students and prepare Curriculum that facilitates their developing creative solutions. Problem-solving skills are transferable to any field and are highly valued by employers.

Civic Responsibility | At Iowa Choice Charter School, we promote civic engagement through community service projects and discussions about societal issues. This cultivates a sense of responsibility, citizenship, and awareness of the world beyond our Student’s immediate surroundings.

Adaptability and Resilience | Navigating the ups and downs of the High School experience prepares students for the uncertainties of adulthood. Overcoming challenges, setbacks, and disappointments builds resilience and adaptability, imperative qualities for success in any endeavor.

Lifelong Learning | We want our Students to leave our Educational Institution with an affinity for learning that goes beyond graduation. By encouraging curiosity and a growth mindset, we set the stage for graduates to continue seeking knowledge throughout their lives.

Overall, it is important to recognize that High Schools play a role in preparing Students for life after graduation: a role that we take very seriously. By doing so, we are helping young people thrive and leading them towards a brighter future!
