Why Boosting Student Enrollment Matters and How to Help!
Iowa Choice Charter School is on a mission to shape the future of education and we need a boost - this is where everyone comes in! We want to invite others to support us in our endeavors to increase Student enrollment at our school. If there’s anyone who wants to know the why or the how - this is where we come in!
This Blog Post will explore the significance behind our initiatives to boost Student enrollment, describe the impact Student enrollment can have on the lives of those connected to our school and our community, and provide guidance on how everyone can contribute to growing the vibrant and dynamic learning environment we are cultivating here at Iowa Choice Charter School.
First, we’ll dive into a few main reasons why working towards the goal of increasing our Student enrollment is so important to us:
Reason 1 | Expanding Educational Opportunities
Our Mission is to increase the High School graduation rate in the state of Iowa. Nearly 5,000 Students (grades 9-12) who lived in Iowa dropped out during the 2021-22 school year. For Iowa Choice Charter School, these are 5,000 Students too many.
As we provide Learning Pathways that empower High School Students to reach their full potential, we see the positive impact of our programming firsthand. As our enrollment continues to increase, we increasingly receive feedback from Community Members, Faculty, Parents and Family Members, other Educational Institutions and Non-Profit Organizations as well as Students themselves. This feedback is in celebration of Iowa Choice Charter School and how we consistently meet Students where they are and give them all the tools, resources, and support they need.
The more our enrollment continues to grow, the more we can extend the same opportunities to more Students. This not only solidifies our place among other schools as a well-known educational option in our state, but also ensures that a diverse range of students can access our unique educational offerings.
Reason 2 | Strengthening Academic Programs
As a Public Charter School, we always hope to refine our processes. It is important to us that as apart of this refinement, our Curriculum and overall academic programming is evaluated. There is a direct connection between our ability to recruit new Students and our ability to adequately provide what everyone here at Iowa Choice Charter School needs. In short, the higher the number of Students, the higher the quality of our educational offerings!
Increased enrollment allows us to invest in and expand our academic programs. More Students mean more resources and opportunities for specialized courses, extracurricular activities, and advanced learning experiences. This, in turn, prepares Students for success in higher education and/or their future careers.
Reason 3 | Building a Thriving Community
Everyone has a need to belong. We want our Students to know that no matter who they are, they belong at our school. Research shows that when individuals do not regularly engage with a community, they are at greater risk of experiencing stress and other health-compromising issues. Alternatively, when people are immersed in a supportive community, they typically feel a stronger sense of well-being overall which often has benefits in all areas of life. Iowa Choice Charter School is all about benefiting all areas of life for others!
There are many ways we focus on improving the lives of all those connected to our school. Whether they are Faculty Members, Leaders, Mentors, or Students, we believe a primary way to enhance their life experience as a whole is through creating a community filled with understanding and encouragement. And, we know that Student enrollment directly impacts our ability to sustain this community.
A robust Student body enriches the learning experience for every Student and for anyone connected to Iowa Choice Charter School. More Students mean more outlooks, talents, and backgrounds that can lead to expansive conversations where more perspectives are shared. This is what allows our school’s community to thrive while preparing Students for the diverse and interconnected world beyond the virtual classroom.
Reason 4 | Growing a Supportive Network
In a recent survey, about 3/4 (83%) of High School age Students recognized school itself as their biggest stressor. Second to this (69%) was their concern about navigating life after graduation. This reveals that there is most definitely a need for Students to feel supported as they continue on in their educational journey during the High School years.
When a Student enrolls at Iowa Choice Charter School, they immediately become connected to a network of support. Students who have access to a broader social circle can collaborate on projects, develop essential interpersonal skills, and form friendships! Plus, a supportive network enhances everyone’s sense of belonging, making our school a place where every Student feels valued and supported.
Now that we’ve shared the why, it’s time to consider the how. We work on a daily basis in an effort to grow our Student body. And, as we always make sure our Students know, it’s okay to ask for help!
